Franklin Delano Roosevelt (1882-1945)

He curtailed the excessive capitalism of the previous Republican era of the 1920s and 1930s, the policies of which brought widespread depression and ruin. It was he who uttered the famous phrase, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself."
