Columbia 250 Community Festival Poster Art Contest
Deadline July 23, 2004
On September 18 Columbia 250 is inviting neighbors to an all-day Community Festival on the Morningside Campus.
This day of celebration includes a Jazz Festival with Dee Dee Bridgewater, the Taj Mahal Trio, Eddie Palmieri y La Perfecta II, and the McCoy Tyner Trio, neighborhood
tours, a street fair, art exhibitions, dance and drama performances, performance artists, sports clinics,
health screenings, science displays, community vendors, interactive exhibits, and much, much more!
The University is inviting members of neighboring communities to participate in a contest to create the art work
for a commemorative poster representing the Columbia 250 Community Festival. Artists of any age, professional or amateur, are encouraged to submit
entries illustrating a major theme of the day:
"Community: Living and Learning with Neighbors"
Art work will be judged by a panel of professional artists from Upper Manhattan and representatives of the Columbia Community
Festival, based on creativity, suitability for a poster, and relevance to the theme: "Community: Living and Learning with Neighbors".
The selected entry will win $300 cash prize and serve as the basis for a poster commemorating this historic occasion. In addition,
artwork of finalists in the competition will be displayed on the day of the Community Festival on September 18, 2004 and throughout the
week following the event on Columbia University's campus. A list of all finalists will be posted on the Columbia 250 website.
